The Earthshot Prize
Forget Megxit, what’s happening in the royal family that really matters? William and Kate have announced a cash prize to incentivise individuals and organisations to come up with solutions to help ‘fix the earth’. Five winners will receive the Earthshot Prize every year between 2021 and 2030. This follows the indisputable evidence from the last decade that we need to act now to address urgent challenges to protect our world.
What’s this we hear?
The announcement was made by our nation's gem and everyone’s favourite naturalist - Sir David Attenborough. He stated that the prize would go to "visionaries rewarded over the next decade for responding to the great challenges of our time". These particular challenges, which will be rooted in science, will aim to generate new ways of thinking and stimulate solutions.
Moonshot to Earthshot
The Moonshot that John F. Kennedy proposed in the 1960s produced a flurry of research which catalysed new technologies, and therefore the intention is the Earthshot will invigorate and motivate new generations and their approaches to repairing some of the damage that has been caused to our planet.
Who gets it?
The prizes are not just aimed at the technology sector, they can be awarded to ‘anyone who is making a substantial development or outstanding contribution to solving our environmental challenges.’ Well, Little Futures may not be on the winners list yet, but we certainly can’t wait to be part of the ambitious and animated collection of companies making waves in forward thinking about our environment.
